Lagrein Putzenhof 2018

Putzenhof

This small, family run estate is loacted south of Bolzano and was bought at the beginning of the 1950s by the grandmother of Roman Mottironi, the present manager. The vineyard spreads across 5.5 hectares on sandy and porphiric soil at 300-650 meters above sea level and benefits from south-west exposure. Wine has always been made at Putzenhof but they have only been bottling and labelling the wines from the estate grown grapes since 2009. Three whites and three reds are produced totalling to about 35,000 bottles a year.

Aged for 12 months in large oak barrels. Scents of violet and forest wild berry with a hint of vanilla. Fruity and fleshy on the palate with soft spices and supple tannins. Will pair well with charcuterie, matured cheeses and game.

Trentino Alto-Adige

Trentino Alto-Adige

Trentino Alto-Adige is characterized by the alpine peaks which soar for many thousands of feet above the Adige river Valley. The region follows the Adige river along its north-south course down from the Alps towards the plains, winding past various valleys and lakes.

Trentino-Alto Adige produces 8 DOCs and has a wide range of varieties: Schiava, Teroldego, Lagrein, and international grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir among the most widely used. The standard red Trentino Rosso is made from the Cabernet grapes, with Merlot also thrown in to make it a near-complete Bordeaux Blend. Its white Trentino Bianco counterpart has Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco as its base, with Sauvignon Blanc, Muller-Thurgau and Manzoni Bianco as permitted auxiliaries.

Grape varieties In addition to the dominant local varieties Schiava and Lagrein, there's more and more interest for Teroldego and Pinot Noir amongst red grapes, while the main white grape vaeriteis are: Muller-Thurgau, Sylvaner and Gewurztraminer and some very fine examples of Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco, with other indigenous grapes like Nosiola.
