Chiara Boschis is known for producing open, rich wines with a great structure, and has some hectares of vines under cultivation in the commune of Barolo. Chiara is one of the few female winemakers in the Langhe, holding an unquestionable confidence, determination, patience and charm. The Barolo region is traditionally a primarily male dominated region and she has gained the respect and great recognition through an unwaivering dedication to producing great wine.
Chiara bought E. Pira & Family estate from Pira family of whom she is old friends with. Pira is an old family of viticolturists who from the end of the '800 and the beginning of the '900, became wine-producers. Their prosperous patrirachal family declined as all its male components met untimely deaths one after the other, until the tragic end of Luigi Pira, the last Pira to tread the grapes and to make wine without mechanical devices.
About a year after his death his sisters sold the farm to their old family friends, the Boschis. Chiara is the 8th generation of the Boschis family to assume responsibility for the winery, she took over in 1990.
The winery is situated in the town of Barolo facing the Piazza del Peso, where via Monforte and via Vittorio Veneto (so-called Via Nuova) meet. The winery vinifies only the grapes provided by the estate vineyards, about 2 1/2 hectates, situated in some of best zones of the Barolo area: 2 hectares in locality Cannubi and Cannubi San Lorenzo, the rest in locality Via Nuova (Collina Terlo); the zone most known for the Nebbiolo grape that becomes Barolo. As a top producer, Chiara Boschis is always seeking to produce high quality and innovative wines that are elegantly balanced, along with traditional structure and austerity. To further this effort she started to vinify the vineyards Cannubi and Vian Nuova separately, in order to best show their individual characteristics.
