Terms & Conditions


  1. By placing an order with Petersham Cellar you are confirming that you are 18 or older. It is illegal for us to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18.
  2. When you give Petersham Cellar your credit or debit card details you are confirming that you are either the card holder, or that you have permission from the card holder to use the card for the purpose of ordering wine.
  3. By entering your payment information you are dealing with Petersham Cellar directly.
  4. We reserve the right to cancel any orders we cannot fulfill for any reason. If your order is cancelled we will contact you to explain why and refund any money you have paid us for that order.
  5. Delivery is free for orders over £200 to a single UK mainland address. All other orders are charged £18.00 per UK mainland delivery address. Please note deliveries to Jersey, Channel Islands, The Isle of Man, The Isle of Wight, The Scilly Isles and some areas of Scotland may take longer and are subject to a surcharge.   6. If your order goes missing, or is damaged, between dispatch and delivery, please alert us as soon as possible, we will send you a replacement order as soon as we can. We will not accepts returns if products are in good conditions.
  7. For your own safety we reserve the right to contact your card issuer for the purposes of carrying out security checks.
  8. We take your privacy very seriously and will only pass your details on to 3rd parties when necessary to fulfill your order i.e. warehouse operators, carriers etc.
  9. Any promotions, discounts or vouchers are single use only and not to be used in conjunction with any other promotion, discount or voucher unless otherwise stated.
  10. Products offered by us are displayed on our website(s) in 'real time'. This is to say that any product may be withdrawn from offer without notice.

Return of Goods, Refunds and Cancellation



In the case of damaged or faulty goods Petersham Cellar will provide a replacement, credit or full refund on the rare occasions a breakage occurs or for products that are faulty. We must be notified of damaged or faulty products within 3 working days of receipt. We may require the faulty products to be returned to us so please keep all the original packing. In order to process a refund or replacement due to damage or breakage, a clear photograph(s) of the damaged goods will need to be provided.

We reserve the right to refund and not replace damaged or incorrect items at our discretion. This includes refunding for part sets. Promotional products that are added/included at no extra charge cannot be refunded if damaged or replaced without a subsequent postage charge being applied subject to availability.

On the rare occasion where the products delivered are different to those ordered we must be informed of this within 3 working days of receipt. We will arrange a collection of these products sent in error as necessary once we have investigated the dispatch records for your order.

Please contact us by email (in writing) at info@petershamcellar.com to cancel your order within 7 working days after the date that the item was delivered to you. Unwanted items must be returned and received by us within 14 working days after the day of the date that the item was delivered to you, however, you, the customer, will be liable for the amount payable for the return and appropriate repackaging as required of the goods to us. We strongly recommend using an insured and recorded delivery service to the full value of the goods. All returned items must be in their original packaging, in an untampered, re-saleable condition. Due to the nature of the goods, refunds will not be issued where there are clear signs of tampering rendering the goods not resaleable.

Revised Duty Charges


New duty rates will come into force from 1st August 2023 (listed below). Duty was £2.23 for all wines below 15% abv, however it will now be linked to the alcoholic strength of a product so the higher the strength, the larger the duty. 20% VAT will be added on top of this. Please note we will be updating our website over the coming weeks.

Duty on lower-alcohol wine 10% ABV - £2.14 per 75cl bottle
Duty on sparkling wine 12% ABV - £2.67 per 75cl bottle
Duty on still wine 12.5-14.5% ABV - £2.67 per 75cl bottle
Duty on fortified wine 15.5% ABV - £3.31 per 75cl bottle
Duty on fortified wine 20% ABV - £4.28 per 75cl bottle
Duty on spirits 40% ABV - £8.86 per 70cl bottle
Duty on spirits 45% ABV - £9.97 per 70cl bottle
Duty on spirits 50% ABV - £11.07 per 70cl bottle

Security policy


Our Payment Service Provider is Sage Pay (formerly Protx) – the largest independent payment service provider (PSP) in the UK and Ireland.

Sage Pay provides a secure payment gateway (Level 1 PCI DSS), processing payments for thousands of online businesses, including ours. It is Sage Pay’s utmost priority to ensure that transaction data is handled in a safe and secure way.

Sage Pay uses a range secure methods such as fraud screening, I.P address blocking and 3D secure. Once on the Sage Pay systems, all sensitive data is secured using the same internationally recognised 256-bit encryption standards.

Sage Pay is PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliant to the highest level and maintains regular security audits. They are also regularly audited by the banks and banking authorities to ensure that their systems are impenetrable.

Sage Pay is an active member of the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) that defines card industry global regulation.

In addition, you know that your session is in a secure encrypted environment when you see https:// in the web address, and/or when you see the locked padlock symbol alongside the URL.
