X MUSE - AN INSPIRATIONAL SCOTTISH VODKA

Petersham Cellar are confidently moving their portfolio into spirits territory. With the assistance from the head barman at La Goccia and working with the best producers and distributors in the UK to help build a unique and balanced list for the spirits lovers across the UK.

We started working with X MUSE in May and tasted the base vodka by itself and then in a cocktail with an English Vermouth, Blackdown Silver Birch. What makes X MUSE unique is that its the first blended barley vodka inspired by the spirit making traditions of Scotland.

They draw on that history and experience, employ craft and new methods, and blend heritage barley and the purest water to produce a delicious vodka of the richest, deepest character and qualities.

X MUSE, pronounced ‘tenth muse’, draws on that history and experience, employ craft and new methods, and blend heritage barley and the purest water to produce a delicious vodka of the richest, deepest character and qualities.

‘New times require new mythologies. My partner Robert Wilson and I believe that in a world that needs a fundamental reboot of its value system, there are considerable opportunities to develop brands that can contribute to the construction of the new order of meanings. I am very proud to present our new baby - X MUSE, a post-craft, high-quality brand of which I am an Artistic and Brand director. X MUSE, pronounced ‘tenth muse’, is the first blended barley vodka inspired by the spirit making traditions of Scotland. It brings silent innovations at every single corner of the brand and product. It is also the first genuine (!) attempt to bring ‘art thinking’ at the DNA of the brand. My 20 years of experience in the spirits industry helps break the rules, push the boundaries of conventions and imagine something radically new. Making a great innovative vodka, especially the one that is also good to sip, is probably one of the most difficult tasks of spirits making as in vodka there is not much space to hide.’

‘We use two heritage varieties of barley, Maris Otter and Plumage Archer, distilled separately and combined in precise quantities. A process unique to us. It is this careful orchestration of barleys, prized for their flavour, that makes X MUSE so smooth and complex. X MUSE’s name has many layers of meaning and contains multiple references. In Greek mythology there are only nine Muses, divine sparks of art and creativity. They are named and their inspirational roles specified. There is a Tenth Muse, unnamed, unknowable and beyond form. The Tenth Muse represents all that is unseen, not captured, defined or understood. She embodies our brand credo: “More is hid than uttered”. For alchemists, the Tenth Muse combined and focused the powers of her nine sisters. She is the muse above all muses who pushes us towards perfect harmony and balance, the qualities found in our vodka. X MUSE is also the title of a sculpture by one of my favourite artists of all time and a personal inspiration for couple of my own artworks - great Scottish artist, philosopher, poet and gardener, Ian Hamilton Finlay at Jupiter Artland. The Tenth Muse is our Muse.’ - Vadim Grigoryan, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of X MUSE
