Pinot Noir Riserva Gottardi 2016

Gottardi

In 1986, the Innsbruck wine merchant family Gottardi fulfilled a long-cherished dream and purchased the 6 hectare winery in Mazzon. Over the years, all the vineyards have been replanted and converted to wire-frame culture. After completing the new plantings, they produced the first wines in the newly built modern cellar in 1995 . Over the years they have been able to expand the vineyards to a total of 9 hectares.
These are characterized geologically by sandstones, reddish and yellow siltstones, limestones as well as marl and dolomites. The special features of the Mazzoner terroir also include the long evening sun and the subsequent cool mountain winds from the Dolomites. This special micro-climate enables the Pinot Noir to develop this unique sophistication and elegance.

The exposure to the West ensures a lot of sun in the evening. During the night the cold winds from the Dolomites cool down the vineyards, what is very important for the elegance and intense aromatic profile of this wine.

"Sparkling ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Appealing, fragrant nose of blackberries, some dark cherry, supported by fine spicy notes. The acidity is elegant in the background. The Pinot Noir Riserva 2016 is very polished on the palate, straightforward and elegant, lots of fine-meshed, well-integrated tannin, juicy, firm pressure in the finish."

Trentino Alto-Adige

Trentino Alto-Adige

Trentino Alto-Adige is characterized by the alpine peaks which soar for many thousands of feet above the Adige river Valley. The region follows the Adige river along its north-south course down from the Alps towards the plains, winding past various valleys and lakes.

Trentino-Alto Adige produces 8 DOCs and has a wide range of varieties: Schiava, Teroldego, Lagrein, and international grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir among the most widely used. The standard red Trentino Rosso is made from the Cabernet grapes, with Merlot also thrown in to make it a near-complete Bordeaux Blend. Its white Trentino Bianco counterpart has Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco as its base, with Sauvignon Blanc, Muller-Thurgau and Manzoni Bianco as permitted auxiliaries.

Grape varieties In addition to the dominant local varieties Schiava and Lagrein, there's more and more interest for Teroldego and Pinot Noir amongst red grapes, while the main white grape vaeriteis are: Muller-Thurgau, Sylvaner and Gewurztraminer and some very fine examples of Sauvignon and Pinot Bianco, with other indigenous grapes like Nosiola.
