Libenter Tenuta di Tavignano 2018

Tenuta di Tavignano

Tavignano consists of 30 hectares of vineyards located in a small town called Cingoli, in the heart of the Marche region. They make fantastic wines within Verdicchio del Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Piceno.

Aged in old barrels for 14 months. Aromas of cherry with jam and just a little plum and spice on the nose. Soft and smooth on the palate with silky tannins, behind balsamic and smoked notes. A mature and juicy wine perfect with red meat dishes, such as stewed or grilled game.

91 Points Robert Parker

Now an IGT wine, the Tenuta di Tavignano 2018 Libenter is a blend of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A future vision of the wine could see some Lacrima added to the blend. This dark-skinned grape adds aromatic richness and spiciness. Anyway, the idea is to achieve a more creative wine now that it enjoys the freedom of being outside the Rosso Piceno appellation. This edition from 2018 offers medium fruit weight coupled to a rather austere bouquet with blackberry and prune. It ages in neutral oak (third and fourth passage), which helps keep the mouthfeel bright and the wine from feeling too extracted. There are earthy notes and a hint of savory tobacco as well.

Marche

Marche is a region on the eastern side of central Italy. It stretches over a triangle delimited by the Apennine Mountains to the west and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Thanks to the various climates created by the influences of the Apennines, the Adriatic and the region’s rivers (the Metauro, Potenza, Tronto and Nera), wine producers cultivate in both warm and cool viticultural zones. Calcareous, clay and limestone-rich soils contribute to the distinctive terroir. Marche is best known as a white-wine region, although it is also home to some high quality reds. The principal white varieties here are the ubiquitous Trebbiano and Verdicchio, grapes that have been found in the Marches for over 600 years. The DOCGs Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica are the finest expressions of Verdicchio. Among the red wines of Marche, the finest are generally made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese, the dark-skinned varieties used in the intensely fragrant Rosso Conero Riserva. and an extensive system of hills descending towards the Adriatic sea.
