Syrah Per Sempre Tua Rita 2020

Tua Rita

The production area for the prince of the Tua Rita house 'Syrah per Sempre' is the upper Maremma, in the Colline Metallifere area. It boasts the denomination IGT - Indicazione Geografica Tipica - Toscana Rosso. Produced from 100% Syrah grapes. The planting density reaches 8,500 vines per hectare. The training system is spurred cordon. The soil is distinctly clayey with a medium-high presence of skeleton. In the higher vineyards there is more skeleton, in the lower ones more silt. The agronomic management of the vineyards is naturally organic. The average production reaches 3,000 bottles per year. Very small. Harvesting is done by hand in 15 kg crates. Then the wine is aged for 20 to 22 months in first-passage French barriques; bottled in the summer, it is left to rest in the bottle for a few months before being placed on the market To those who asked Virgilio, founder of the company together with his wife Rita, which of the wines of the production he preferred, he replied without hesitation: 'Syrah, forever'. One of Tua Rita's top wines with a very limited print run only exists because of Virgilio's stubbornness and his desire to experiment. Alongside the traditional vineyards he wanted Syrah: he personally tended the vineyard, observed it, tried to understand its ability to integrate with the terroir and waited until he decided the fruit was ready for independent vinification.

After 18 months in barriques, the organoleptic evolution was marvellous and Virgilio's certainty was immediately confirmed by the press and the market. Ruby red, tending towards garnet. Aromas of red fruits, vanilla, black pepper and liquorice on a toasted texture. Soft, with silky tannins and good persistence. Liquorice aftertaste. Elegant.

A wine to pair with red meat and game dishes. Excellent with beef peposo or mature cheese. The serving temperature is 18° C in a wide goblet.

Tuscany

Tuscany

One of Italy’s most preferred regions by wine connoisseurs, the region of Tuscany is probably only rivalled for its prestige by Piedmont, in the north. Tuscany contains a number of very fine DOC and DOCG appellations within its geographical borders, and is also home to the Super Tuscans. By far the most relevant Tuscan appellation is Chianti Classico, where some incredible wines that compete at the highest level are produced. Many of these amazing Chiantis will age for over twenty years. Chianti shares Tuscany with Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, both of which produce wines of great quality. Brunello is a local variety of the Sangiovese grape. The warm temperatures coming off the coast, combined with the cool breezes from the hills, create a multitude of microclimates.

DOCG and DOC

Tuscany accounts for over thirty DOC and half a dozen of DOCG wines. In addition to the great, well-known and appreciated reds, the local production includes a few distinguishable whites, the most notable among them being, without doubt, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Other delicious whites include the Bianco d'Elba, Bianco di Bolgheri, Vermentino and Bianco di Pitigliano.

Grape varieties

One of the most well known is Sangiovese the mainstay in all but one of Tuscany's seven red-wine DOCGs. In Montalcino it goes by the name Brunello, hence the name Brunello di Montalcino; in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano it is locally known as Prugnolo Gentile. Chianti, famed the world over, also features Sangiovese, as well as permitting the addition of small amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino, and international gems Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. As well as being famed for its reds, Tuscany produces some distinguished whites, one of which has achieved DOCG status: Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
